Lynn Nottage, two-time Pulitzer-winning playwright for 'Ruined' and 'Sweat' has brought a new play to the theater world. Mlima's Tale, a riveting play with an important message has hit the stage at Westport County Playhouse.
The play starts with a dramatic monologue from Mlima, an elephant with glorious ivory tusks. These tusks are so impressive that Mlima is considered a Kenyan national treasure. A dramatic hunting scene ensues showing Mlima being hunted down.
While this is early within the play, the ghost of Mlima haunts the stage throughout the entire performance and illustrates the journey of the ivory trade.
With only four actors in this production, it is fascinating to see a total of 20 characters portrayed on stage.
