Westport Country Playhouse’s final production of its 2025–2026 season —Agatha Christie’s The Murder of Roger Ackroyd — is a spectacular, must-see theatrical achievement. Adapted and directed by the Playhouse’s own Artistic Director, Mark Shanahan, this high-energy staging breathes thrilling new life into what the British Crime Writers’ Association famously voted the greatest crime novel of all time. Published a century ago in 1926, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd was the book that permanently cemented Agatha Christie as the undisputed "Queen of Crime". The plot contains all the quintessential ingredients of a classic British cozy mystery: a sprawling country manor house, a wealthy victim, a mediocre local police force, and a village teeming with eccentric suspects who are all hiding volatile secrets.
When the industrialist Roger Ackroyd is found brutally murdered in his study, the local authorities are left utterly baffled. Fortunately, the brilliant Belgian detective Hercule Poirot has recently retired to the very same quiet village to grow vegetable marrows. Spurred back into action, Poirot must utilize his famous "little gray cells" to dissect a mountain of conflicting clues and unmask a killer hiding in plain sight.

A rich, tense layer of suspense is added by John Gromada’s original music and sound design, which keeps the audience second-guessing every floorboard creak.
